LEON

Leon is the capital of the Leon province. It is a nice provincial town and is mainly famous for its cathedral with its stunning stained glass windows. But the cathedral is far from the only sight. The City walls, the San Isidoro Collegiate Church and the San Marcos Convent are great as well.

Particularly interesting, a marvel in miniature in fact, is the Pantheon, closely related to the San Isidoro building but through a separate [paying] entrance. The wall and ceiling paintings are stunning, the colours hardly having faded over hundreds of years and upstairs the treasure and the invaluable old books can be seen. It is worth spending a bit of time on http://www.sanisidorodeleon.org/visita_panteon_eng.htm# before you go.

The famous Catalan architect Gaudi also left his traces here. He built the Botines House in 1892. The walled enclosure plus the adjoining area and several squares have been officially declared of artistic and architectural interest.
